It was a cold Friday evening.
School had just ended, and the sky was covered with dark clouds. Soon, it started to rain.
Ethan and Lily stood near the school gate.
"I think we should wait until the rain stops," Lily said.
Ethan looked at the sky and smiled.
"If we wait, we'll be here all night. Come on, I'll drop you home."
Lily nodded.
They got into Ethan's car and started driving.
The rain became heavier. The roads were wet, and it was getting difficult to see.
Lily looked out of the window.
"It's raining so much."
"I know," Ethan replied. "Don't worry. We'll be home soon."
To make the journey less quiet, Ethan turned on the radio. Their favorite song started playing.
Lily smiled.
"This is our song."
Ethan laughed.
"I think the radio knows we're together."
They sang along, laughing whenever one of them forgot the lyrics.
For a few minutes, everything felt perfect.
As they reached a crossroads, the traffic light turned green.
Ethan slowly drove forward.
Suddenly—
A loud horn echoed through the rain.
A truck came speeding from the side.
"Ethan!" Lily shouted.
Ethan looked to his left.
His eyes widened.
There was no time to move.
CRASH!
The sound of breaking glass filled the air.
The car spun across the road before coming to a stop.
Everything became silent.
Rain continued to fall on the damaged car.
People nearby rushed to help.
"Call an ambulance!" someone shouted.
Lily slowly opened her eyes.
Her head hurt, and her arm was bleeding.
She looked at Ethan.
"Ethan..."
He wasn't answering.
His head rested against the steering wheel, and blood was running down his forehead.
Tears filled Lily's eyes.
"No... Ethan... please wake up."
She reached for his hand.
"Please... don't leave me."
The sound of ambulance sirens grew louder.
Within minutes, the paramedics arrived and carefully took them both to the hospital.
As the ambulance doors closed, Lily looked at Ethan one last time.
She held his hand tightly and whispered,
"You promised you'd always stay by my side."
But Ethan didn't hear her.
He was unconscious.
And neither of them knew that when he finally opened his eyes...
He would no longer remember the girl who loved him more than anything.
